New School Year 2008-09

August 4th, 2008

Greetings and welcome to the new school year for 2008-09 at YIS.

We are moving to the new site this week – in fact, all the school furniture and equipment is already there, but not all the buildings are complete yet and we wait with baited breath to set up the classrooms and offices. We have a busy few weeks ahead. Our Board and the YIS staff who didn’t get a holiday this July have done a fantastic job with the un-ending tasks they have undertaken over the past few months. A big thanks to them…

Please note the following dates:
Teachers resume duty officially on August 19th. This week would be a good time for new students and their parents to come and meet the teachers and tour the school.
Students resume on August 25th at 8am. Note that the school day now lasts until 2:30pm.

As three of the four expat teachers are new this year you may be keen to meet your child’s teacher. We are planning an open day as soon as possible in the first term as an official event, but if you can’t wait, please contact us to make a time.  Our Indonesian teachers remain the same as last year, and they will also be on deck by the 19th.

The new school phone numbers will be 625965 and 625966. Ibu Lany will most likely still be the person you will reach if you ring. A new temporary office should be up and running in the ECU this week.

I hope everyone is looking forward to the new school year and ready to learn.

See you soon,

PS,  Ibu Amber has had a healthy baby girl named Olivia

We Have Been Busy!

February 27th, 2008

Just a short post today to let you know that Yogyakarta International School has found a new home and will be moving!  Our school board has been “on the ball” and secured a site that will allow the school to grow and prosper in the coming years. More specific information will follow: Stay tuned. We will open the 2008-2009 school year in brand new buildings.

On a sadder note, The Noro family will be returning to Japan by mid-March as Tomoyuki has completed his job assignment. They will be missed by all! Thank you, Haruna, for the  generous donation of an electric keyboard to the music department.
